This activity is supported by an independent educational grant from Gilead Sciences Medical Affairs.

Program Overview

The primary objectives of this CME/CE-certified activity are to increase general clinical competency in assessing and treating chronic airway infections, including those associated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other significant known and emerging infectious agents, in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) and non-CF bronchiectasis and to help clinicians remain up-to-date with the most current scientific data, practice guidelines, and standards of care for chronic airway infections in their patients. By keeping abreast of the latest data and advances in the assessment and management of chronic airway infections in patients with CF and non-CF bronchiectasis, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists who treat these patients will be more equipped to provide optimal care.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists involved in the management of patients with CF as well as those who care for patients with non-CF bronchiectasis.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
Design antibiotic regimens for the treatment of chronic airway infections in patients with CF by comparing existing and novel treatments
Apply new clinical findings on managing and treating acute exacerbations of respiratory infections when caring for patients with CF or non-CF bronchiectasis
Differentiate non-CF bronchiectasis by etiology and presentation from bronchiectasis associated with CF
Implement recommended therapies for long-term management of chronic airway infections in patients with non-CF bronchiectasis
Provide accurate and appropriate counsel as part of the treatment team
Provide appropriate care and counsel for patients and their families
